Young Europeans in Action 🏅

“Young European” is a nationwide knowledge competition in Slovakia, in which students from the second and third year of our school regularly participate. It is organized by the Representation of the European Commission in the Slovak Republic in cooperation with regional information centers Europe Direct.

On May 6, 2025, the 20th edition of the regional round in the Košice Self-Governing Region took place. Students demonstrated their knowledge about the European Union, its institutions, competencies, objectives, and member states, including topics from politics, economics, culture, history, and current events across Europe. The competition encourages the development of civic awareness, critical thinking, and understanding of European values.

The themes of the competition are closely connected to the goals of the international Erasmus+ project “Empower2Act for Human Rights”, in which our school cooperates with partner institutions from Portugal, Türkiye, Spain, and Norway. The project aims to promote education about human rights and empower students to become active advocates for justice, equality, and democracy in their communities.

Participation in Young European helps students better understand the connection between European institutions and the protection of human rights, which directly supports the mission of the Empower2Act project — to equip young people with the knowledge and skills to act in defense of human rights at both local and European levels.
